Update on our garden:
Currently have some Oregon SnowPeas planted and growing. The first two rows are about 5 weeks old – and are about 6-7 inches tall and are starting to climb the trellis. The second set of rows are about 3 weeks old now – and have sprouted and are about 2 inches tall. We are holding out hope for a good harvest – it will be a race against the weather (first freeze) to see if we get any peas.
Lettuce – we have 7 red lettuce and 7 romaine (green) lettuce plants going. They are really thriving right now – and are providing leaves for my turkey sandwich on a daily basis. We also picked a bunch of leaves today to make a garden salad to go with our salmon bake tonight. Should be awesome. In the raised bed we also planted a row of red lettuce, and 2 rows of spinach. These rows have sprouted and the plants are started to grow and leaf…whether or not they develop into eating-size….to be determined. The days are getting short and so are the hours of sunlight getting to the garden now – so we’ll see…we’ll see.
Last week I picked a bunch of lettuce and herbs out of the garden and we made a great salad – it contained: Green lettuce, Red Lettuce, Pecans, Onion Tops, Parsley, Oregano, Tomato slices, Red Pepper, Onion Chives, and Smoke Salmon. Besides the salmon and dressing, everything came from our garden/yard – and it was awesome.
Our spring/summer garden did pretty well this year. Outstanding performers included Bush Beans, Pole Beans, Egg Plants, Russet Potatoes, Cucumbers, Tomatoes, Red Peppers and a bunch of different Herbs.. Corn, Cabbage, and Lettuce were a bust.
That’s all for now.
