The Past: In 1993, the first year I visited Alaska, I instantly fell in love with an area of planet Earth called the Kenai Peninsula. The fishing, the scenery, the wildlife, and the general quality of life touched me in a way that I can't explain. From that time on, my thoughts, conscious and unconscious, have been focused on getting me back there as quickly and as often as possible. I guess you could say it has become an obsession for me. Since 1993, I have been fortunate enough to have been able to return every year for some summer fishing and camping sessions. Four of the years during that period (1997, 1998, 2003, and 2004) I was blessed with the chance to spend stretches of 2-months at a time on the Kenai - just fishing and hanging out - truly living the good life, indeed. Through the course of my adventures I have met and fished with and shared stories with people from all over the globe, from nearly every US state, and some of the finest Alaskans you can imagine. There is a magic to life on the Kenai that I just haven't found anywhere else. This website is dedicated to the wonderful people, places, and memories that I have received from that special place - The Kenai. There have been many instances during my times in Alaska, where time has slowed down, and I've experienced a moment of perfection - a slice of heaven on earth so to speak. Then there are other times, when I've been at home, deep in slumber, and I'm back in that place - stepping in the river again, catching that fish, seeing an old friend, re-living a moment that is entirely brand new. Yes, sometimes they come to me - those Kenai dreams.
The Present: Glory and I recently moved to Dallas, Texas in order to follow Glory's company's move. Given the economic situation of the Pacific Northwest, we felt the time was right to make the change. We've committed ourselves to trying Dallas out for at least five years to see how it goes. Currently, Glory is working hard and going to school for her MBA, while I am doing contract work via Robert Half International. Our dreams are still alive, with any luck we'll have set aside the money we need to purchase our Alaska property in a year or two, and then we can begin the next phase of making the dream become reality. In the meantime, we've moved our motorhome to Anchorage - it's parked at Wayne Manor - ready to go at a moments notice.
The Future: I'd like to think that whatever happens we follow God's will. For whatever reason, we've been blessed with these great opportunities in Alaska and we'd like to make the best of them. In my heart, I envision a small riverside homestead, a couple of guest cabins, and a little bit of land. I'd like to be able to develop our homestead into a sanctuary where friends, family, and guests are welcome to come and enjoy their Kenai dreams. I'd like to have the opportunity to host kids and show them an environment where they can see wildlife, catch some fish, and see God's glorious work. Of course it always seems that financial obstacles lie in the way of these utopian desires....but for whatever reason, I have been blessed with a gift - and I don't think it was meant to be wasted entirely upon myself. So, Glory and I will keep plugging away - looking to make those Kenai dreams an earthly reality.
ABOUT THIS WEBSITE: The contents contained in this website are admittedly ego-centric and for the most part politically incorrect...and they are designed to be that way. However, I believe that they are an authentic representation of my observations over the years. If you are offended - then too bad. Personally, I am so sick and tired of these politically correct fishing magazines, websites, and fishing TV shows, that I felt it was time somebody told things like they really are - from down in the muck so to speak. Every time I read one of those fishing articles describing the "lush green rainforest opening into the ephemeral grassy meadow, dotted with pines and willows, while an eagle soars by with it's mating call....." - well I just want to barf. Have we all really turned that effeminate? Shouldn't everyone practice catch and release all the time in order to save the fish --- heck no. Man was designed to catch. kill, and eat. So, here is your warning and admission that my content, views, and opinions will not necessarily match those of the mainstream. And if you can't deal with it, then send me a nasty email or pick up your little magazine and imagine how wonderful and perfect everything really is.
